What motivated me to found Golden Bonsai...

Golden Bonsai is a small company that was born out of a passion for bonsai.

Actually, it all started when I was just looking for a beautiful, suitable bonsai table for one of my bonsai trees. I was looking for this in various bonsai centers in Germany and also browsed the internet "from top to bottom" for suitable, beautiful tables - unfortunately without success.

On one of my trips to Asia, I found a very small, artfully crafted bonsai table at a weekly market, more or less by chance. The bonsai table was really beautiful and carefulls crafted. But when I imagined it together with one of my own bonsai trees, the table was unfortunately a little too small in size.

I still brought it with me to Germany as I wanted to discuss with German carpenters whether or how such a bonsai table could perhaps be made by a carpenter in Germany. Unfortunately, these conversations were quite sobering. I got the answer that you could only get something so fine in Asia. I was told a German carpenter would not be able to create such delicate carvings at a reasonable price.

It actually looked as if such beautiful, delicate bonsai tables were not available in the right size. I just didn't want to accept that.

The idea behind Golden Bonsai is to solve this problem - not only for me but for all bonsai enthusiasts. I know from my own experience how much people value the bonsai tree that they have designed, crafted and taken care of for years and that they would like to present their bonsai trees in the best possible way. Golden Bonsai ​​would like to support you and work together with you to find the right bonsai table that you like and that presents your bonsai tree in the best possible way.

How I discovered my passion for bonsai...

This probably goes back almost 25 years. I have always been fascinated by Japanese culture and so I started learning karate at the age of 14 and studying the history of Japan and the nature of the samurai. At that time, the topic of bonsai was a very attractive aspect of Japanese culture for me, but it took some additional years until I finally got my first bonsai tree.

When I was given a small bonsai tree for my birthday almost 10 years ago, it was very important to me that this small tree would survive. It was a gift from a very special person and I wanted to show my respect and gratitude. I was aware of the complexity of cultivating bonsai trees and wanted to take the best care of the small tree as possible. For this reason, I tried to understand the topic of bonsai using literature and videos from the internet. But I quickly learned that bonsai is more than just theory and so I attended a few workshops at established bonsai centers.

Understanding Bonsai in depth

What didn't entirely satisfy me, however, was the fact that only selective knowledge and experiences were imparted in such workshops. This meant that after each workshop, thematic areas always remained open. I was also looking for a certain regularity in the exchange of experiences on the subject of bonsai.

I found out at a bonsai center that they used to offer a comprehensive bonsai study program which runs over several years. Unfortunately, they did not want to continue the program due to the advanced age of the bonsai master. Fortunately, I was referred to Werner Busch's Bonsai Werrkstatt in Düsseldorf. Training to become a recognized bonsai designer is offered here over 6 years, with the possibility of extending the training for another two years and thus becoming a bonsai teacher.

The knowledge acquired and the exchange of experiences is certainly very enriching, but it is much more than that. Every time I come to Werner's Bonsai Werkstatt, I almost feel at home. My wish is that with Golden Bonsai ​​I can be a helpful support to other bonsai enthusiasts and those who want to become one in their passion for the topic of bonsai and to accompany them in their hobby.
